Pioneer
Millworks is making an aggressive move improve our
production capabilities. The first step in this process
is the complete redesign of our sawing operation.
During a short mill shutdown in March we repositioned
some of our equipment and added about a dozen pieces;
the operation transformed from sawing one timber at
a time to a sawmill type operation that processes
timbers into board stock on one continuous line. This
saw line will significantly increase Pioneer Millworks
ability to respond to the growing reclaimed wood market.
Our customers will notice a reduced lead time for
the majority of our products, as well as greater consistency.
Just
to give you some idea of the scale of the reorganization,
not one piece of equipment from the old mill remains
in its previous position and we’ve added a new
roundabout breakdown saw, a whole bunch of new conveyor
systems and a laser-guided edging saw along with all
of the new dust collection systems this entails. The
next phase of the program will see us replace our
old Woodmizers with new bandsaws, add to our kiln
drying capacity and improve our Denailers ability
to find hidden metal in the raw timbers.
Pioneer
Millworks West has
begun operation. This sales office and distribution
center are poised to improve our connection with our
customers in the west by providing local sales support
and offering off the shelf products. Pioneer West
will stock flooring in Settler's Plank Oak, Attic
Collection Softwood and Douglas Fir with other flooring
products added as we go. We will also stock a collection
of As-Found timbers to allow you to stop by and select
the look you want for your project.

concrete trucks rolling in to bring us a lovely
new floor for our fabulous new mill. A new mill
