The
past few weeks have brought a large lot of heavy,
humid air to the mill - but the guys are staying hydrated
and the flooring keeps on coming - so they're a happy
bunch. They've also been multiplying with 2 beautiful
newborns added to Pioneer Millworks' families this
summer, one coming mid-fall and twins expected this
winter. Quite a happy bunch indeed.
One
thing that you'll notice when you enter the mill
is a new fragrance - we've traded in our normal
diesel odor for the lovely scent of French fries.
Steve Herrick has our tow motors and fork lifts
running on the Biodiesel he's been puttering over
for the last few months. It's working fabulously
well - even causing the machines to run smoother
than they did before. We're happy because it's one
more step closer to freeing us from the crutch of
crude oil and doing a bit more for the environment.
We've
also obtained our building permit from the town
that has allowed us to start working on the new
kiln building that will be going near the bunk.
Part of the set up that is so exciting with this
is that it includes plans for a furnace that will
be used to burn the scrap wood the mill produces
and use that heat & energy to add supplemental
heat to the mill this winter. Though the harsh Western
New York winds make it a bit hard for us to heat
the entire shop this way - combined with us
buying all wind power from RG&E this
should prove an earth friendly way to keep our mill
toasty.
And
Jered's been busy with a bunch of commercial projects
you might see around your area this fall: the Eileen
Fisher bunch will have our reclaimed
American Gothic Gray Elm in both their
Chestnut Hill, MA & King Of Prussia, PA stores.
Out west their University Village Store in Seattle,
WA is featuring our reclaimed
American Gothic Beech.
In
food news - CityQ BBQ has several restaurants opening
around Cincinnati, OH with Pioneer
Millworks reclaimed Barn Siding adorning
the interior walls of the eatery.
You'll
find 6 more A&F stores using Pioneer Millworks
reclaimed wood for their fixtures. [Though we're
still not sure witch of the A&F stores will
feature them.] And another hip clothing company,
Urban Outfitters Corporate Headquarters, chose the
environmentally friendly reclaimed
Foundry Maple [50,000 sf of it] for the
floor of which their creative buncha' workers will
mosey over every day.
We've
also added another molder to the mill - which as
made Alan and his crew not only happy but incredibly
busy. Right now we've been using it to run copious
amounts of Foundry
Maple, but who knows what else funky
they'll be running through it next. It's taken a
bit of strain off the larger molder, cut down on
lead times for Foundry Maple and added some smiles
to Alan and Jered's faces.
