Winter
2006
What an incredibly busy beginning to
winter it's been here at Pioneer Millworks. There
are many neat projects that we've been denailing,
sawing and moulding our hearts out on.
One of those projects is for an organization
we hold close to us called North
East Sustainable Energy Association. Done
in co-operation with NEWWoodworks, this wine
rack is made from wine vats we reclaimed over the
summer from a local Finger Lakes winery. The wine
rack goes up for auction with proceeds to benefit
NESEA in March.
In April you'll find Jered down in Baltimore
at the NWFA
Wood Flooring Expo. Stop by the Pioneer
Millworks booth to see some of the fun stuff we've
been experimenting with, like wire brushed Douglas
Fir.
Speaking of experimentation, we've got
limited supply of some African wood that would make
a great species for your experimentation. We
think most of it is Iroko - it
was used to build huge shipping crates for power station
turbines that were sent back from west Africa to the
USA for refitting and it seems that the locals used
whatever wood was readily to hand.
If you've always wanted some tropical hardwood, but
couldn't get over the destruction of habitat that
comes along with it, here's your chance. Give us a
call (800) 951-9663 or email
us.
If
you're a fan of Fine
Homebuilding, as it seems that most
of our customers are, check out their current 25 year
anniversary issue. Thick and filled to the brim with
great articles and reminiscing of the past 25 years
- you'll find some Pioneer Millworks southern yellow
pine in Work from Our Perspective on page 119.
One of the things we look forward to
the most when it comes to our floors, is the opportunity
to see them after they've been installed and become
part of your everday life. Whether it's under your
desk, or under your kids nothing makes the guys in
the shop smile more than seeing pictures of the floors
they've helped create. So in showing our gratitude
for these moments of joy we'd like to send you a little
something - click
here to learn more about our photos for t-shirts program.
