Winter 2006

We've had a streak of unusually warm weather here in Western New York - and it's very likely that we won't be having a white Christmas. We've chalked it up to Murphy's law - we started our new wood fed boiler for the first time in early December and it's heating the mill more efficiently than we thought it would. It's nice to be able to burn the scrap we produce from timber and flooring cut offs - along with timbers that are too far gone in the yard to use. What amazes us the most [other than the irony of the warm winter weather] is that it heats the mill without emitting any smoke at all. In fact - it actually burns the smoke in a second chamber to produce more heat and less pollution. A nice holiday gift to the environment and another step towards becoming carbon-neutral.

We've been mulling this over for a while - and 2007 will be the year Pioneer Millworks officially opens a distribution network in Canada. Stone Millworks will be handling our flooring lines in the Eastern bit of Canada - specifically in the Georgian Bay and Toronto area. The folks at Stone Millworks are a fun group to deal with - we're fairly certain you'll like them as much as we do. Though they're still fancying up their showroom though Desiron [a dealer of theirs in Thornbury, Ontario] is up and running. Stop by and to see Pioneer Millworks products and say hi to Heather for us, should you find yourself skiing in the area.

We've made the decision to transfer responsibility for retail sales in Utah to The Green Building Center in Salt Lake City. They have an established presence in the area, extensive product knowledge, a lovely showroom and are planning to offer installation services. All in all, it was an easy decision to make.

Speaking of the west coast - Jered's been talking with the folks at the City Bakery in Los Angeles & NYC. They've been playing around with out American Gothic Beech and have fallen in love. If you've not heard of The City Bakery - stop by their website. They're a group after our own heart - a family bakery with a focus on baking organic and building green. And if that's not enough of a reason to love them - you have to get a hold of their pretzel croissant. They sent us a pressie of them - and we've been hooked since.

If you're planning on escaping the north east winter during the month of February, you may run into our man Jered, who'll be staffing our booth at the Surfaces show. If you have any questions about reclaimed wood flooring, how it works or what it looks like - this is your yearly chance to get the answers while making a stop at the craps table. Come on, momma needs a new environmentally friendly wood flooring! Woo!

Retail floors, your neighbors entryway & counter tops, mantles and even coutour end tables - there's no end of places where you'll run into our reclaimed wood.
