People |
Many
of the reclaimed wood industrys leading
experts work for Pioneer Millworks. But even our
entry-level nail pullers share our common goal
bringing you quality wood with fine detail
and rich character, time after time.
Another thing our office is right next
door to our yard. Our salespeople cut their own
samples. And everybody has a little sawdust on
their shoes. |

A transplant from across the pond, Martin’s adept at keeping the boat going and crew in line - he’s been a rowing coach for many of the area high schools. Thank goodness Martin likes to cook a warm, comforting meal - there are little souls to feed.

Pioneer
Millworks Eastern Office Sales & Dealer Program
Meet Julie, our sales and customer service rep. Always cheerful, happy, and ready to make your day. When she's not helping customers, she's working on her "little house" in the village or making cool things out of found "junk". Her cat, Mo is her best find to date, she found him in a wood pile.

Pioneer
Millworks Acquisitions Manager
Michele is a veteran of the days when we were a tiny little operation in Shortsville. She's still with us, though often found digging through a ramshackle building talking the value of timbers with some fascinating demo-guys. Michele's most happy, however, spending her time with her two beautiful daughters, her hockey playing son Evan & her Remington 1100 given to her by her beloved Dan.

Pioneer
Millworks Office Manager
If you call us, Valerie is probably the first voice you'll hear. She keeps the place running smoothly, is a mean mandolin player, classically trained violinist and always up for a giggle. It's not all about music though; this mother of two does have an incredible soft spot for the NY Yankees and a huge slice of New York pie.

Millworks Marketing Manager
When Jennifer isn't lurking in the sample rack - you'll find her poring over the latest industry trends, figures, campaigns and guerillas. [Advertising, not Primates.] Inspired by the curiosity of her three boys, the husband Will's rock star musings and the writings of Seth Godin, it's only on the crystal slopes of Hunt Hollow that her body gets to catch up with the pace of her creativity.

Pioneer
Millworks Graphic Designer
Craig joined us in January '08, after a spell of freelance work. A man of many talents, he's at his best when immersed in the world of colors, shapes & typography, pulling together the elements of design to make our stuff look groovy. If you have any comments about this site, let him know. Outside of work, he's settling into his old RIT stomping grounds following his return from New Jersey. His roots in the upstate NY soil are about to get a little deeper, as he and girlfriend Kathryn have just bought a house (we've seen him wandering around the shop taking mental inventory).

Founder and owner of Pioneer Millworks, J. Ohhhh plays as hard as he works - on a sunny Friday lunch hour you'll often find him tooling down the muddy inclines of Victor's single track. On the home front, Jonathan enjoys the craziness of family life with witty Sierra beginning adulthood on the west coast, adventurous & quizzical Jake River chasing after Dexter-the-dog and the ever-patient Maxine who manages to keep them all in health, in love and in line. |

As jewelry artist - Beth knows that the perfect solution is all in the details which is what makes her an impeccable liaison between wood coming in and wood going out of the mill. A busy mother of four teenagers - Beth and her husband Mark try to only raise their voices on the playing fields as they cheer each kid in soccer, football or lacrosse.

Pioneer Millworks Operations Manager
Jamie’s life revolves around sawdust, penguins and footballs. Years keeping chaotic woodshops in line has made him an asset to the PMW team; being a patient father to a curious and zoo-loving three year old helps too. The stress relief of a good Sunday game or the occasional pick-up tennis match keep him laughing and ready to lead another headlong charge into everyday operations challenges.

Don, John and Jason spend their time around local barns investigating the contents and evaluating their worth in wood. They've often been captured on film as siding harvesters, honey gatherers, amateur art collectors, arm wrestlers [as you see here] or trying to make their way into the latest PBS documentary. Don has the special task of not only helping the other two become public access television stars, but he also drives the Pioneer Millworks flatbed.

| The
Yard Guys |
|
 |
| Josh and Alex have the task of having to sort
and categorize the timbers that come into our
yard. [Not an easy job when consider the 9 acres of timbers these guys call their office.]
Amazingly gifted in their ability to identify
wood species, they can spot a quality timber from 300 feet, inform you on the latest-coolest-hip-musician and make a death-row inmate laugh all from
a moving forklift. |
| The
Denailers |
|
 |
| What
to say about this motley crew? Marvin, Michael, David, Dave, Jeff & Ron are a tough
buncha' guys, who work in the cold & the humidity
to pull the metal oddities out of the timbers
we buy from across the country. They may seem
at first rough, but either the close quarters they work in or the team work it takes to do what they do has softened their dispositions to that of an amiable lot. |
| The
Timber Saw Crew |
|
 |
| Gnarly
timbers in, clean timbers
out. Kurt, Brady, Carl and Dan run some of the biggest
bandsaws in the industry, and do so with skill
and dedication to quality. A love of showing off the latest pics of the kids, a jam session on the weekends, the good natured spirit of posing for our marketing dept's incessant picture taking or showing up to the rescue with EMS make them more than just your average sawyers. |
| The
Board Stock Saw Crew |
|
 |
| Scott, Cal, Steve and Armando are the guys who take timbers and turn them into blanks for the moulder crew to mill into the flooring you love. They're the ones who decide which grade which board belongs in, they cut out defects, they feed the hog, they play in bands, they fish, they joke, they make for a pretty entertaining bunch. |
| The
Moulder Crew |
|
 |
| It's just
board stock until Allen, Jeff & Chris
take it and turn it into fabulous tongue and groove
flooring, or any of the many millwork profiles
we can turn out. They also form the opening line to a classic tall story; a Mennonite, a furniture maker and a book-worm walk into a bar... |
