The
Raw Material:
We collect old wood from barns, industrial buildings,
old textile mills, old saw mills, water towers,
wine vats, and we've even got some timber from
the Welland Canal lock gates. |
 |
|
The
Yard:
As a wholesaler, we keep our nine acre yard filled
with everyday inventory items along with materials
we acquire through demolition projects and common
purchase.
|
 |
|
The
Bunk:
Before any cutting can be performed inside the
mill, all nails and other metal must be extracted
and set aside for recycling. This process contributes
to the safety of the machine operators and adds
to the esthetics of the finished products. It's
a hard job.

The Head Saw:
The head saw was specially made for us and is
the largest saw this manufacturer has so far
made. As timbers come in, they're 'skinned'
by the head saw to remove the accumulated years
of debris, paint and dings. When the timber
exits the saw, it will be clean cut on all four
sides.

The Four Sided Planer:
Material destined to be reused as timbers is
passed through our four-sided planer, which
can handle 14" x 16" material. |
 |
|
The ReSaw:
This saw works in a roundabout motion which
permits us to keep wood in the saw blade at
all times. This process increases productivity
and saves time, which in turn saves our customers
money. The result is finely cut board stock.

Two Sided Edger:
Guided by lasers, this rip saw cuts both sides
of the board in one pass, which allows us to
get maximum usage of each piece milled in the
shortest amount of time.

|
The Hog:
Scrap material, offcuts and floor sweepings
are fed into the hog via the vibrating chute,
where it's ground into sawdust and collected
by our powerful dust collection system. All
of our waste is used as animal bedding.

|
The Sort Chain:
As a board exits the resaw and edger, it passes
through the hands of some of the most experienced
guys in the shop. These artisans assess each
board and allocate it it to a batch according
to our tightly-worded grade descriptions, ready
for its trip to the kiln.

The Chop Saw:
Boards are trimmed to length on the chop saw
and the ends squared up. |
 |
|
The
Kiln:
We gently kiln dry our boards down to a uniform
moisture content. This process ensures stability
of the final product and adds to the overall quality.
As an added bonus, it also sterilizes the wood
so that any of the critters it may have collected
along the way are killed off. |
 |
|
The Wire Brush Machine:
We built this, so we're quite proud of it.
Two counter rotating wire brushes are pressed
against incoming board stock which is fed in
by a power feed system. The brushes produce
a wonderful surface texture by removing some
of the softer fibers. |
 |
|
The
Molder:
Our molder is one of the most advanced in the
U.S. and because we set it up to make one small
batch of flooring at a time, it can hold incredibly
tight tolerances. The net result can be a floor
that needs very little finishing as the the boards
are so uniform. Of course, some of our floors,
like Settlers' Plank and Attic Collection are
uniformly random! |
 |
|
Packaging:
Each floor is packaged by hand to both ensure
protection during shipping and ease of handling
at the jobsite. |
 |
|
Shipping:
We'll ship anywhere in North America, or in
the case of this load, the middle east. Our
shipping department has the experience to set
up some pretty tricky deliveries and best of
all, we don't mark up freight charges. |
